Captain Leaf's Fishing Reports

Date
Report
Sept.20-2008 Hurricane Ike has past, for some a very unfortunate deal. For us we were very lucky to have all of our boats safe and sound. We are open for business out of Freeport, Texas. Plenty of gas, ice and every thing we need to run charters. The bull reds are biting very well at this time along with spanish mackerels. The fishing after the storm is out standing.

July 2008 Summer fishing has been great on the calm days that we can get out to the gulf. Lots of sharks coming in average size 3-5 ft. Most trips lately have been getting kingfish and sharks, The kings are in because the blue water is within 9 miles. We should start seeing some bigger sharks with the presence of Shrimp boats in the area.
3-2008 2008 Spring break is here.. We still have some openings, Book your trip today

9-19-2007 The Fall Texas Bull Redfish run is on! Lots of big bulls right now along with some nice black tip sharks. The run will probably go on thru November. Fishing is hot, weather is starting to cool making some nice days on the water.
June-Sept 2007 We have been really busy this summer, fishing has been really good over all. Some days tougher than others but for the most part we have had some really good trips. There are plenty of sharks out right now, they are working behind the shrimp boats along the beach front. The fall run on Bull reds should start at any time now. Most of our trips have been getting lots of King Fish, Spanish mackerel and sharks.

Texas Bull Reds

Had both boats out today for some Texas Bull red fishing. Had one group with 4 kids ages 7-10 these guys had a blast they caught so many fish including bull reds, sharks, and gaff tops. The Bulls were crazy once you had them chummed up behind the boat. The Big sharks are still around also just offshore a few miles. We didn't really mess with them today but will go after them on Friday. These young ladies were on our other boat.

5-19-2007 We fished Friday-Sunday this weekend. Friday was very windy with rough conditions, still managed some sharks. Saturday got really nice offshore fished for the Texas Sharks. They were there thick, we caught lots of nice Black tip sharks in the 40-80 lb class. At some point you would have them swimming around the boat, you could just flip a bait out to them and the battle was on.

4-12-2007 Texas Shark Trip

Had a couple of guys today, fished a few miles offshore for Bull Reds and Sharks. We were greeted by some very windy choppy conditions. I knew the fish were there so we went ahead on and made a few hours out of it. We caught lots of Atlantic Sharpnose Sharks in the 3 ft range with quite a few bull reds mixed in. Once the fish showed up we caught them one after another. We also caught some of those Bat Rays.

We also managed some kingfish on this trip with the sharks, pretty early for this action but hey its been very warm, with water temps in the lower 70s. March 11-13 Texas Spring Break-2007

What a spring break run, lots of people down fishing with us. We did lots of trips this past couple of weeks. The fishing has been good for the most part. The big Drum have been running as well as the Bull Reds, a few sharks even, and some Jackfish. The last few days have produced small hammerhead sharks, and sand sharks. These trips are fun lots of Action on Big Fish! The warmer it gets the better.

Texas Saltwater Fishing Report

Had a group of 4 out Sunday for a bull red, drum, jackfish trip. The fishing started out a little on the slow side in the morning. Once it warmed up the fish turned on. We landed lots of Big black Drum with a few bull reds mixed in. We also had some big schools of Jack fish coming by. The day before we landed 2 of the first black tip sharks of the year. Fishing is good now with the warm weather arriving.

Big Black Drum and Bull Redfish were the catch of the day. Had some really big fish out there one Bull red was probably 40 lbs along with a 50 lb drum. These fish are really good fighters and fun to catch. The warmer it gets the better the fishing!
